Prints.

I am really happy with the outcome of both of my projects. I love the way that the whole tank man image flows, and all the pieces kind of seem to match and all have the same theme, even though i didn't try it at all. I also love the way it looks against a black background.

I also feel very content with my scans final. Although looking at it now, i wish i would have lassoed the scans and put them all on black without the white squares, i still really like how the final product looks.

Stream of Consciousness

I actually really enjoyed working on this project, and I'm satisfied with the outcome. Looking at and studying it, each individual square is like a different stream of consciousness, and the piece as a whole is like a dream. I like that when it was put together, it had a distinct palette, even though i did that unintentionally. It also flows very well, and the picture is still very clear.

Tank Man photos

Inspirational...

Watching the video on Tank Man really struck a heart string with me. It really inspired me, to be an inspiration to others. He had so much influence on the world, just by being courageous and standing up for what he believed in. Who knows what condition the world would be in today if he had kept going to wherever he was headed, and not stopped those tanks. I don't know if I could ever change the world the way he did, but if I could be an inspiration to one person the way he was to the entire world, I would say that my life was complete. That faceless, nameless hero has made a huge impression on me to never give up fighting for something that I have faith in, no matter how hopeless the situation seems.

dogs in space!?

That's crazy.

Fun && safe Halloween

This weekend, a few girls and I carved pumpkins in the lounge of my hall. I made a typical jack-o-lantern face, and painted on the back a bat, ghost, and andy warhol-style banana; just something random. I didn't get any pictures of the pumpkin because for some reason, it went rotton really really quickly, but it was pretty cool looking :).

I also decorated my door and hallway at peabody with my floor mates for the little kids that came trick-or-treating. It looked really good. We put up streamers, headstones made out of paper, and lots of other decorations.

I also dressed up thursday, friday, and saturday nights, of course!

Photoshop

is so hard to use. im in need of so much assistance right now, it's ridiculous. At least i'm good at editing pictures (I think).

Lids

For this weeks collections, I had a lot of applesauce lids. this is probably only one of 5 or so. I only had one tuna can lid, and about three NFL soup can lids. I'm really hoping that I have a lot of lids and this project turns out good. I feel that my collections are showing that I eat all the same foods all the time.

Oliver Self Portrait

While creating this self portrait in the style of Oliver, I tried to make it really stylize and simple, but still keep the original shapes of the picture that I used. I thought this project was really fun, and it challenged me a lot to think outside the box. I'm pretty satisfied with the way that it turned out, and I'm looking forward to using photoshop and learning new ways to alter and stylize pictures like this!

Oliver

I had previously posted that i was going to do my self portrait in the style of Georgia O'Keefe, but after thinking about it more, I changed my mind and am now going to do it in the stylized photography style of an artist named Oliver. His works present well composed photography, as well as advanced stylization of his photographs. He often photographs architecture, and applies basic photoshop techniques strategically to his pictures, making them grainy or sometimes very flat.

New&BetterDog

I decided that my first dog project just wasn't very good, and completely re-drew it on illustrator. I'm much more satisfied with this outcome :)

10.02.2009

This weeks collection was a lot of repeats again. The two new additions to my collection are the top of a can of tuna, expiring June of 2012, and a pull tab top of a can of soup. The repeats included an aluminum apple sauce lid, a pink breast cancer top from yogurt, and another green Healthy Choice soup lid.

Week 2 Lids

This week I only have 2 different lids for my collection. Of course, I ate more than 2 things in my dorm, but these are the only lids that are different from others: Generic brand applesauce and a plain water bottle cap. These are two pretty healthy foods, if you ask me! Maybe I'll turn out to be a healthier eater than i originally thought :)

I fight...

I am actually very satisfied with the way this came out. It's not very often that i'm content with my work, but I feel that this actually conveys the message that I want it to.

Routine.

I decided this week to change up my routine. Instead of finding the earrings now, I will keep every lid from everything that I eat or drink inside my dorm room. Like Jille said in class before, I could use things that I eat/drink outside of my room, but I would just feel like I'm cheating :). So far, I've collected three different lids: yogurt, soup, and milk. I think that this collection will display the unhealthy and cheap eating habits of an average college student... or maybe not. Looking at my collection at the end of the semester, I might just realize that i eat healthier than I first suspected. I guess we will see!

6:00 AM

Reading through Jille's random websites at 6:00 AM, i was just thinking to myself, I would love to look at something that will wake me up right now. Her find "1000 journals project" did just that. Especially Journal 915 (http://www.1000journals.com/index.php?view=Journals%2FExpandedDetail&number=915&x=0&y=0). The business of this journal kept my eyes moving throughout the pages and the colors caught my attention so well. The time and creativity put in to that journal is inspiring. It reminded me of the routines article that she showed us last class. This kid obviously had some kind of routine that he went through every day; he posted the most random of things sometimes.

I also came across the "Very Small Objects" website. I was jealous when I flipped through the pictures. It would have been such a good idea for this routine/collecting project, to just find tiny tiny objects and take macro photos of them. I think I might just do that regardless. I love how much detail these objects have. To me, it's like proof that God doesn't miss a single beat when designing the world and everything in it.

I also really enjoyed http://www.maryellenmark.com/. Her classic photography just made me feel kind of warm. There's nothing too special about it in the effects that she uses/used, but her photographs are just classic and touching. I loved looking at the pictures of older celebrities in their younger days especially, for some reason. It made me feel so insignificant, but not in a bad way. Just like a little reminder that there are bigger things than me, and everybody is growing older with me. I don't know why it made me feel that way. It just did.

I also just decided a few minutes ago that I would post a link to music that I'm listening to at the time of the post; just to give you readers a taste of how I was feeling when this was written...

Helvetica

I watched clips from the documentary Helvetica today, and was astonished at the amount of dedication some people give to the typeface. To somebody who has never really thought about the significance before, a sentence typed in helvetica probably has no meaning, but to some typographers, it says a lot. It's amazing how many different examples of Helvetica there are in the world. On buildings, billboards, ads, magazines, and anything else you can imagine, it's everywhere. From what I saw of the movie, it looks really interesting and I would like to watch the whole thing all the way through some time. I'd love to understand how something so simple could be such a huge part of a person's life.

Here are some examples of helvetica that I found in my everyday life:
